There are numerous instant messengers around, and at first glance, they hardly
differ. However, if you take a closer look, distinctive differences become apparent beneath the surface, especially as far as
security and privacy protection are concerned.
The Swiss-made Threema, unlike many other popular messengers (WhatsApp, Skype, Google Messages, Apple iMessage, Facebook Messenger,
etc.), which have been named as NSA partners in Snowden revelations, has never partnered with any intelligence agency.
Threema, unlike other popular messengers, does not make money from personal data, which are kept strictly protected in line with
Swiss law. In terms of security and privacy protection, there is no match for Threema. It is the only service that can be used
anonymously, i.e. without providing personally identifiable information (such as a phone number or email address). |

Threema rules out the possibility that anyone other than the intended
recipient can read messages, thanks to end-to-end encryption.
After messages are delivered, they are immediately and irrevocably deleted from the Threema server (its servers only assume
the role of a switch).
Just to draw your attention: messages are deleted from the server, not from the recipient’s device, like other messengers do.
Threema is designed to generate as little data on servers as technically possible. Groups and contact lists are solely managed on
the users’ devices, not on the server, no log files are created, and no personally identifiable information is collected.
Threema can be used without access to your address book. Nevertheless, if you do grant access to the address book in order to retrieve
your contacts, the contact data is transferred in one-way encrypted form and will not be stored on the server.
Chats, contact lists, and groups are managed in decentralized manner directly on the involved devices; no data is stored on a server.
Threema differs significantly from conventional messengers in this respect.
Threema is the only instant messenger, passed through an independent security analysis (in October 2020). Download it now (Mobile, Windows, MacOS, Linux). |
